In 2004 the greatest number of travelers to Canada came from the U.S and accounted for 8,169 million dollars nationwide. There are nearly 50 million Americans over 15 years old with one form of disability or another. In fact, 27% of the North American market has a disability.
According to Fortune Magazine, disabled travelers in 1995 spent $82 billion on travel. Add to this number, the reality that travel companions often accompany travelers with disabilities. By embracing the concept of barrier-free access, Atlantic Canada stands to tap into a market of over 800 million people with disabilities worldwide who together have an aggregate income of $1 trillion
